I've got the one Debian installed, now I've got to boot knoppix and get that one. By skimming the Debian file, I did indeed confirm that I was using the ‘nv’ driver. Since you said you're using Debian, I assume it's set up to use 'nv' as well, unless you specifically installed the closed-source Nvidia drivers. Got your xorg.conf file handy? In it, they describe my problem. page one, item two: <blockquote>"NO – If there are black, yellow, orange or other colored stripes across the display or other problems with the display as the computer is booting up, please contact technical support."</blockquote> That's my problem to a tee, so we register and try the email support thingy. I've got a nVIDIA g-force4 MX 440. I'm pretty sure the drivers are non-free, and I understand that there is some kind of "wrapper" code to get them to work on my system I guess I should have said something.
