Wow, my vote actually matters today

So today is the Potowmack Primary, and for a perfectly logical reason I’m a registered Democrat. You see, Maryland has thrown its delegates to the Democratic Presidential candidate for as long as I’ve been old enough to vote. It’s a safe Democrat state (and curiously enough, there’s rarely any proposal to split our delegates evenly as the popular vote goes.) That means in the Federal election, it doesn’t matter if I vote Republican or independent or stay home in protest over lousy choices in candidates. Because of that, I figured if I ever had to request any favors from my elected critters, it might just look better if I was the same party as them. So on a whim, I changed my affiliation.

Usually the major candidates are chosen long before we get around to casting our votes in the local primary, but not this year. So now I have an opportunity to chose the next Democratic candidate, and as a white male, I have a choice. Should I vote my gender, or my race?

And someone remind me again why I’m doing this. Is it because I’ve rather have some prick who’s soft on the First Amendment, soft on the Second amendment, Is willing to compromise on torture, and would nominate supremes that would render such great cases as Kelo or Raich?
